Originally by: Jagga Spikes Edited by: Jagga Spikes on 06/12/2009 23:53:46 an interesting observation: i compared two screen shots of battleship docked in station. one made just before Apocrypha and another made today. it has exactly the same FOV. could it be that FOV is dynamic depending on ship size?
as 120 for maximum, it's too much. even 90 would look too wide.
Because FOV is only changed in space, from about 110 to 90 now.
the FOV now is 90 degrees (it is shown in right click in space>mapbrowser) and now it looks about right to me. see, different people have different taste and preference, that's why we need such a feature added to the game.

The FOV is still too wide and smaller ships dont appear as small as they are in front of bigger objects.
You can use LEFT MOUSE+RIGHT MOUSE+CTRL to zoom in (narrower FOV).

Furthermore, I dont think it should be a configurable value since we all should have the same impression of the eve universe,
Good point. One compromise is to lock FOV choices to a few fixed value (30/60/90/120). It also makes it "easier" to choose one FOV without having an urge to "tweak" it too precisely (there are some theories about the best FOV should be 103 which some serious hardcore FPS games tend to use).

Not a abuse - because everyone can do the same. It is not actually "seeing more", but a better overview of surrounding objects while still being able to see your own ship.

Feeling sick blah blahh, nobody cares about this foolish argument, because its bullsh*t. Noone gets sick or dizzy because of a narrow FOV, if you do you're eventually epileptic and should stop playing computer games anyways.
Wrong. It is true, althought I don't personally suffer it.
Here is an artical about FPS sickness: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_sickness#Simulation_sickness
It is real and there are many discussions out there if you google FPS sickness or DOOM sickness or similar keywords.
Giving people a CHOICE is the best solution, since many people suffering from the sickness would like to enjoy the game as well.

Lots of people are getting nauseated with theius UGLY fov adjustments.
FIX that as TOP priority! Really TOP!
Actually their intent is understandable - they want to make everything look correct in scale in addition to the pretty texture upgrades, and they want to market the game this way since it looks much more impressive... but they havn't thought of those who actually play the game for hours and hours and just adding an option to "use wider camera focus" would be nice.
